I love to read that is why I am here . I am married, (2nd marriage) and it is such a blessing to be loved and love in return. God has sent me a soul mate. I am constantly reading & I find much joy in reading especially while soaking in a hot tub of water and listening to soft relaxing music. I love to meet people, I find people intriquing. ...more »

Hi Donna, hooray for the bike! We don't have any safe places either, or I would get one. I hate having to drive my car to the grocery, etc. Today is my "special" day of the month, so, not so hot here. :) But I'll survive, I've proved it over and over.

What do you think of Beth Moore's stuff? I've heard pros and cons.

Hey Donna, thx for your note - sorry for the late reply, have been off Shelfari for a bit (though happily reading offline). I've already started Joyce Meyer's Battlefield of the Mind and yes, I do love it!

Great you got to meet her, I did too when she came to India earlier this year - http://www.thevoiceinmyhead.com/2008/01/16/the-festival-of-life/ it was really a blessing (something I had asked the Lord for, and you know how He's only too happy to bless our heart's desires!)

Anyway trust you are well. Be blessed,

    xx,

Glad to hear you didn't get the worst of Fay (she of you?). We have been breathing smoke since the middle of June, but not in any personal danger. As for earthquakes, well, we do have them here, but not often and usually not very big. We are four hours north of the Bay Area, but still feel them if they are on the Northern coast of CA. There was a 4.2ish one about six months ago, 30 miles from my house. I felt that, but it took me a minute to realize that it wasn't a train passing or a sonic boom. Just a slight jiggle. :)
Not to harp on Tolkien, but I'm not really an avid fantasy fan either. I don't know if you will like it. Some people think it is too descriptive and slow, but that is just what I like! Let me know if you try it what you think.

Hey Donna! Well, I won't say you "have" to read the Lord of the Rings trilogy, but I truly do love them. The books have a very different pace from the movies, I love them both. The fantasy world seems so real, he spent so much time creating it, including writing languages for the elves, dwarves, etc. I love the poetry and imagery and the insights sprinkled throughout. But I won't go on about it. Find a cheap copy, or borrow one from the library to give it a try, that is if you like fantasy at all.

How did you hold up through Fay? Were you affected?

I hope you didn't think I was criticizing your liking or reading The Shack, I found the reviews interesting in that there seemed to be two opposite camps. I'm all for stories that give food for thought, but I have a very difficult time reading books with crimes against children in them. They hit too close to me, so I avoid them, that's all. :) I am trying hard to finish the book by Yancey today as I have to present it tomorrow in front of the church in the hopes that someone will check it out. I'm the librarian and we are trying to promote the library and reading. I don't think I'll be able to finish, but I suppose I can check it out later. I'm finding it one I want to read slowly and assimilate, not just rush through and forget about it.

I haven't read The Shack. I looked up some of the reviews and I'm not sure it sounds like my kind of book, have you read them? I'm reading What's so Amazing About Grace? by Philip Yancey right now. It is very good, making me realize the awesomeness of God's forgiveness and love for us and how we need to be reflecting that to our world.
Georgia has humid heat, right? At least ours is mostly a dry heat, I wilt when the humidity is up at all. Doing any gardening?

Hi Donna! I think a lot of people have been absent from Shelfari lately. I've had several days in a row with no new posts in some of my most active groups. Maybe their summer is like mine, I'm just so hot I don't have the energy to think up lively conversation. ;) I am reading a lot though. Take care!

    Fellow Shelfari Friend,

i recommend strongly you read:: How Wal-Mart is Destroying America. See
what your conclusions are , and then share your thoughts top other consumers. Here are my thoughts...( note: I try to be a fair, siomple minded, common sense person at all times. This book has me a tad perturbed, to say the least

    Here are my thoughts

Is anyone as Disgusted and Disturbed as I am after reading this book? I realize the author has a bit of a slant as he abhors WM, however it is downright scary.

Can this company be any worse for America?

    Where do we start?
Importing tons of CHEAP product from overseas
    Greedy
    Taking advantage of its workers
Beating its suppliers out of business for its own gain
Killing economies as they move into town.
Utilizing and taking advantage of government subsidies to get their "boxes" built.

So we all save 10 cents per box of popcorn or a gallon of cranberry juice.

This to me sums up how silly we the American people are. We are outsourcing America to death. Pretty soon there will be no jobs so we won t be able to shop anywhere.

Not to mention the service is awful.

We the public have the final say and we CHOOSE to shop where we want.

Will some peope read this and STILL shop there to save a few pennies?.. of course. however i think if most read this........ they ll choose to spend their dollars elsewhere.

Walmart is , in my opinion eating America up. We all need to wise up here. I don t know of a situation where monopolies are any good for the consumer. Do you??

Donnasg's! Hi there. Hope all is well with you. We have been busy finishing school and trying to get our two eldest situated in jobs or college. Looks like one will try to head to nursing and the other to a mechanical institute. Yikes. I might have to go back to work. ;)

The concept for Bookcrossing is really great, but to be honest only a few of my books have been 'tracked' as far as who has them and where they are. i haven't really participated much there in the past year, due to personal issues, and haven't posted my books much, but they have a very busy and fun social network.

    Hello :)
I know a lot of people like bookcrossing.com, but I have trouble promising to part with my printed friends, which doesn't make me an ideal member [grin]
I do appreciate you telling me about it. I know it was a decent suggestion, The service has become very popular in several of my online circles!

Thanks for the note about Bookcrossing. I am a member, but not very active. I tend to turn most of my books into our local used bookstore for credit, or to the Friends of the Library. Lazy, I think. It is a fun idea though. I keep getting notices about books being released in a town about 30 miles from me. I have heart palpitations about those books being left all alone in the wild!
