Dickter

Since I was about twelve years old, I have been an insatiable reader. Sadly, however, I am a very slow reader. Consequently I have way more books than I will ever be able to read in my lifetime. Besides the books I have listed on my shelf, I have many more in ebook format that I read on my Palm LifeDrive, and more still in audio format. Did I...more »

    Hi Dickter,

We're just closing out the discussion on The Newton Prophecies and I was wondering if you ever got to reading it? If you didn't like it I'm sorry to have let you down. That said, I would really like to know what it was about the book that turned you off. Any input would be much appreciated.

    Thank you! =)

Thank you so much for the friend invite. I am looking forward to chatting with you. Looked over your shelf looks like we have some books in common. You have Water For Elephants on your plan to read list. I just finished it. It is a very good book, I do hope you like it.

I've been really lucky meeting authors. My first one was (thrill of thrills) Mary Higgins Clark. She signed a book for my mother for her birthday. I've met Tim Dorsey a couple of times, he spoke at our library. Bob Morris is a native son and has spoken at an author dinner twice give by our Friends of the Library. We acually had 10 authors at our library during the County-wide Festival of Reading this spring. Two of these were children's and young adult authors. Signing off now - time for me to take my book to bed and (hopefully) get a couple of pages read before I can't keep my eyes open any longer. Its been a long day - I work full-time and get up at 5:30 a.m. Looking forward to retirement; my husband has been paving the way (he is retired).

We just moved into a brand new library one year ago; our anniversary is next week. Now we are looking at budget tightening - go figure! Business is booming! I'm really surprised to hear that there's a typing test. My sons took typing in school too, one is great at it - also studied piano. The other is back to two fingers but they both use computers and are quick enough - typing isn't the same issue with computers as it was with typewriters - I've been in both worlds. We are close in age - you are older :-)

Well, good luck! Around here we are not hiring, we have frozen positions due to tax cut-backs :-(

I noticed you put Steve Berry's new book on your shelf. I had a chance to meet him and listen to him speak at a Library Assoc conference. He's a smart guy - very personable. I've enjoyed his books.

Since your profile reminded me of a book I read ages ago, Follow the River by James Alexander Thom, I've decided that I should accept your invitation! It isn't too hard for someone to have nearly 100 books in common when you have over 1500 on your shelf! Most of my friends are literally my local friends that I have introduced Shelfari to, there are only 3 (now 4) from the site itself. I'm a bit concerned about keeping track of too many other people on my page.

We have another thing in common, I listen to a lot of my books - I usually have one in my car player, for my work commute, and one in print that I'm reading.

99.99% of the books on my shelf are library books - of course you can add those to your "read" shelf! You asked to join my list of Friends but I don't know why. I have just added a disclaimer that says "I've been getting some requests to be a Friend. If you think we have a connection, please tell me why you want my friendship and/or what you find interesting about my pages. I am not interested in simply building a large list of friends but I do like to make connections with people who have similar interests." So, if you'd still like that connection, send me something more :-)

For the Suspense & Thriller's Group...

We still have one member waiting to receive a copy of THE NEWTON PROPHECIES by Keith Katsikas. I’m hoping it will arrive soon. We have ALL THE PRETTY GIRLS to be discussed on the 15th and A WICKED SNOW on the 1st. Would it be too soon to schedule Keith’s book to be discussed on June 15th?

Really? How cool? You're Buffum's long lost descendant! haha! I didn't realize the Berrybenders were real people! I thought they were the "fiction" in this novel. Oh wow! You have made my day! I loved that nutty group of people.

Thanks for your friendship request. Are we the only people around here that love Lonesome Dove? I love McMurtry in general. I've also read the Last Picture Show series and the Sin Killer series.

    Hey Dickter -

Go to the "history-fiction" group to the thread called, "Group Read." You'll find the options for the month listed about halfway down - there are about a dozen of them. If you could list your top 5 that would be great!

    Hey Dickter -

You had mentioned a while back that you would be interested in participating in a group read in the History-Fiction group. I'm just getting ready to choose the first book... could you please stop by this weekend and cast your ballot? I have a number of books listed for you to choose from. Thanks!
