Some books I read for the plot, other books I read for the characters. This one I read for the characters, not to say that the plot is poor, I just especially liked the characters. One reason why I liked Sandpiper was because she 'seems' to be very beautiful and popular. She has a nice figure (included a large chest) and has many boyfriends. But as you read you find she is not happy at all and she actually has very little true friends. "The Walker"s mysterious persona adds an interesting touch to the book.

Many critics suporting this book say that it is, "another Harry Potter!" That is a bad description for this series. It may contain wizards, but spell casting, learning, and their adventures are completely different. Diane Duane does a wonderful mix of fantasy and scifi. In a sense she makes magic make sense. It no longer if a couple of words and fancy wand waving. It has scientific-like reasons for working and being possible. And the humor within the series is always a plus. At times the jargon and certain scenes get a bit confusing, but all in all it is a good book.

Before I read this book I had read "The Giver", both are similar in the aspect that they are both set in this 'alternate universe'. A place much like our world with some distinct seperating characteristic. This book was interesting and thought provoking. If you read this book, make sure to read the author's note. With the note it adds another layer of depth to read into and enjoy.

When people ask me about this book the first thing I say is, "It's the best 8th grade romance book you will ever read" I found the character's engaging and interesting. And the aspect of this book being romantic with such innocent and young characters makes it so much better. When I finished the book I felt so good inside. I also found it interesting how each chapter switches the point of view between the two main characters. It shows how some situations are viewed by two different people and are interpreted completely differently. One of my favorite books.

I like original books. And everybody has read a book about ghosts or spirits. But I was surprized at the originality of this book. The beginning and ending were the bests parts of the book, both which I found interesting and thought provoking. The middle wavered a bit and some of the characters went out of character, but in the end it was well worth the read
