I still remember the thrill I got when I learned to read. FINALLY I would be able to do what everyone else in the house was doing! Those mysterious marks on paper became worlds unto themselves and I could go where they led whenever I wished... I still haven't lost that feeling of excitement that the next unread book will bring... One of my... more »

I am going through five books now. I am half-way through these:
Confessions of a Mullah Warrior by Masood Farivar and
God's Problem- How the Bible Fails to Answer... Why We Suffer by Bart D. Ehrman

I have been wrestling with this and related issues since my college days, and Ehrman is giving expression to the same concerns and answers with authority and a great deal of erudition.

Almost finished - Joan Didion's The Year of Magical Thinking
Plodding through - The Tenderness of Wolves by Stef Penney, a novel

Just started on God: The Failed Hypothesis by Victor J. Stenger

On the list to read (Broke down and bought my own paperback copies at Barnes and Noble):
Rights of Thirst by Frank Huyler, a novel
Lone Survivor by Marcus Luttrell w. Patrick Robinson, an eyewitness account on the lost heroes of Seal Team 10 in Afghanistan

Hi Beth, go distracted by other e-mails. Forgot the notification from Shelfari.
After the initial spurt of enthusiasm to stock up my bookshelf, I realized that listing my past readings may not be helpful to anybody. I am just plodding through my current reading much too slowly - I'm like a kid in a candy store - I collect too many books from the library, and then return them half-read when renewal limit is reached. Is that anyway to love books...?

I'm bringing It;s the Little Things to school tomorrow for you. Boy in the Striped Pyjamas and Hugo Cabret are in our CP library so you could borrow them under Mark's name.

    Hi Beth,
Thanks for thinking of me and this site. I love books and I love talking about books so this may be a great way to do both in a timely fashion for me. I will have to get use to site and how it works but that's what weekends are for!
    Happy reading

    Hey Beth-
Thanks for the invite. We certainly don't read the same stuff. You were always the brains in the group. If i can find the time I'll try to play a little on this site. I agree, where do you find the time?
