Like everyone else on this site, I love to read. My favourite genre is historical fiction, but I also enjoy fantasy, thrillers, mysteries, classic literature, and some chick and kid lit. In addition to my love of reading, I also love to buy books. As a result, with a few exceptions, all of the books on my virtual bookshelves can be found on... more »

What if we just say we'll finish Place of Greater Safety by the end of June? It's likely to be my pool book, since I'll have chunks of time there that I don't get at home.

I just brought Bring Up the Bodies home from the library, but I'm in the middle of Leo Marks' history of codemaking in WWII and so engaged I've been dreaming about it. I need to finish that first.

I know, I kept thinking while reading some of the harsher moments that I probably shouldn't like Cromwell anymore, but Mantel somehow keeps him sympathetic even while he's being ruthless...I'm glad you're also still a Cromwell fan, I wondered if it was weird of me to feel that way!

I'm really liking Blackout so far! I intended to just read a few pages earlier this afternoon, and a few pages turned into the first 100...

Mantel really is amazing with her plotting and attention to detail--I loved how some things set up in Wolf Hall (like the angel wings) came to have new meaning in the context of this book. It is going to be hard to wait for the discussion!

I still have Hilary Mantle's Wolf Hall to get around to one day. Let me know if the new book is any good, please :)

I am surprised at just how readable Bodies is...do you suppose our brains have re-wired due to an overload of Tudor history?! Yes I am a member...I'll have to see where I am at by the end of June...thanks for the reminder!

Hi Melissa. So far, so good...I think it is a little easier to follow the "he's" as she is clarifying now and then; e.g. "he, Cromwell, said..." I love the subtle humor...if you liked Wolf Hall you will like this one. She has said that it only spans 9 months so it is more concise and easier to hold :).

Wasn't Cyrano wonderful? I saw it in my early twenties years ago and was weeping openly by the end. To Kill a Mockingbird is also showing this year. I may go down only for one night and if so, it shall be Hamlet that I see. Perhaps I can see a matinee of Mockingbird and Hamlet the same night.

Ian McKellen was brilliant I thought in the 1995 movie version of Richard III. I also enjoyed Looking For Richard with Al Pacino which I saw, I believe, at the Sundance Film Festival. That is the great thing about Shakespeare. It is timeless and open to so many possibilities and interpretations. I saw another Richard III version live that was more propaganda. The costumes were WWII. While interesting version, I much prefer men in doublets and tights.

Sadly, when I visited England close to twenty years ago, I was not able to buy tickets although I did see the Globe which was marvelous!

I started going to the Shakespeare festival during junior high. I still remember the first play I ever saw. A Midsummer Night's Dream. I have gone back numerous times over the years. Last year I saw Richard III in the second row. I almost fainted when Richard stepped off stage and stood by me reciting Shakespeare! I could have died right there with a smile on my face. This year Hamlet, The Merry Wives of Windsor, and Titus Andronicus are playing. I am waiting to see who will play Hamlet before purchasing tickets. It all depends on the actor.

I have never seen King Lear performed.

Yes! I'm a huge Big Bang Theory fan. I just love Jim Parsons and Sheldon is my favorite of the boys. I haven't seen Billy Elliott yet. I do love musicals.

I just bought tickets to see The Glen Miller Orchestra Tribute next month. I'm so excited I went to a vintage clothing store and bought a period costume to wear.

I visited New York last August for the first time. For three nights I watched musicals. The Lion King, Wicked, and The Adams Family. I stayed in Times Square and during the day took the subway different places. Everyone I met was gracious.

I feel the same way. I would love to see Dan Stevens in person. Oh! and Jim Parsons. He will be wonderful in Harvey.

You really MUST watch the new Sherlock. I told myself that the updated version would be a waste of time. I changed my mind five minutes into the show! Benedict Cumberbatch is brilliant as Sherlock. He was born to play him.

I read today that Dan Stevens (the actor who plays Matthew Crawley) will be signing on for season three of Downtown Abbey (Huzzah!). He will also be playing Morris Townsend in "The Heiress" on Broadway.

Did you by chance see episode two of Sherlock last night?

I am also going through Downton Abbey withdrawals. I may need to start at the beginning again. Looking forward to the third season.

I am really looking forward to our trip! It is sinking this weekend that we're going soon so I am getting very excited. It has been 4 years so a long time!

I just watched another episode of Downton Abbey. Really like it. Just wish I could watch it quicker.

And Happy Mother's Day to you, too! I'm thinking this is the last year I'll receive one of those slightly sadistic questionnaires from school where the teachers pose questions like, "My mother's favorite food is..." and "My mother's favorite thing to do is..." and the kids fill in embarrassing things. (This year I didn't have a favorite food and I like to sleep. Last year those answers were chocolate and walk the dogs. Don't ask about the year before that.)
