Aubepine12

About me: I'm a college professor by day and a voracious reader at nights/on weekends (if I don't fall asleep too early). I also enjoy traveling and spending time with family/friends/pets. I really enjoy creative activities of various sorts but rarely have the time. My major (reading) default: no plot memory. I can read a book but can't...more »

Aubepine, I noticed that you have several of Daphne du Maurier's books on your shelf, so I would like to invite you to check out the Daphne du Maurier group that I started a few days ago. Here's the link:

We would love to have your input, even if it's been a while since you read a DduM book.

    Best regards,

Dreaming about redecorating for sure. Actually getting around to doing anything? Not so much. I can't paint my walls til I paint my ceiling and I really really don't want to paint my ceiling.

I was looking at your bookshelf again (I try to visit my friends' shelves regularly so I don't miss anything) and found Austenland. I am a die hard Jane Austen fan, and read things that have been written by modern authors in her style as well. What did you think of this one? Should I invest in it?

    Hi
    Happy Easter to you
Hey thanks to your rating and reviews I've just added "Nineteen minutes" and "Lost and found". I hope you don't mind me asking, but are you from Paris? I have a fascination and strong desire to learn french despite my dismal early attempts to learn during my high school years!
    Cheers

Hi, I hope you had a nice Christmas and Happy New year.
After finally finishing Life of Pi...I just collected "A prayer for Owen Meany" from the library today (finding this listed on many profiles as a favourite read)! I see you only gave it 3 stars - what is your opinion on this book? I'm waiting for "Water for Elephants" and hope this comes up next!

Hi, I still haven't read Angel of Repose, but I'm sure I will someday! Anyway, I thought of you because over the summer I read some books about women in the old west and I just read another last night. BUT they are all children's books so even though they were good they were quick reads. I read the Sarah Plain and Tall series (four in all, each about 80 pages) and a really short (about 15 pages of text) picture book. If this sounds interesting to you, you can go to my shelf and look at my pioneer tag for the titles and authors. I'm sure that your public library would have them all, but they would be in the children's section.

    Hi Aubepine,

Maybe you'll have room on your shelf for bang BANG? It's a novel about a Center City Philadelphia woman who gets really upset with all the guns on the streets and does something outrageous to make things better. Here's a review:

*STAR* BookList (published by the American Library Association)
. . . her close friend is shot in the street, . . . . Interviewed by a reporter at the scene, Paula later discovers that her grief-stricken words, taken out of context, are being used by a shady senator and the gun industry to promote the pro-firearm agenda. Suddenly finding herself the unwitting—and very public—proponent of a political stance she abhors, Paula embarks on a decidedly offbeat, one-woman vigilante crusade to bring the gun trade to its knees . . . the book is filled with anger and raw urgency. The characters are tough and believable, and the dialogue positively sings. In many ways it’s the literary equivalent of a Tarantino movie: edgy, streetwise, and a little arrogant (don’t expect a balanced look at the subject of gun control), with a strong and determined female protagonist. Brilliant might be too big a word for this novel but not by much.

If that sounds interesting, you can read an excerpt and some reviews at:
