You've been away nearly a year. Hope you're up to your eyebrows in good reads.
Hope you are well, long time no news. What are ya reading these days?
How are you? How is your summer?
Long time, friend. What's got your literary attention these days? I've yet to finish Little--David's book does not interest me much, not even to read the final 100 or so pages.
I'm back home and posting again on my blogs, my Mother died March 2. I'm doing well.
I haven't gotten too far in 'Little' yet. We're going to be discussing it in the Diversity Works group starting March 24, if you'd like to dust it off and join us. With a notation like you've given 'The Stone Angel' it certainly seems like it's worth picking up! Miss Pym and I are getting on well, though I find that I need to read something slightly more contemporary or ancient and non-British in between the novels--I fear not doing this would render her canon one long spinster's lament, which is not accurate by a long shot. When you get to her, I suggest starting with either her first, 'Some Tame Gazelle', or with 'Excellent Women'.
hi, I wanted to let you know I've been at my dad's since the 12th, my mother is dieing, I will be here in my hometown for at least another week. Very sad time, you may remember that she has had Alzheimer's for many years. I don't have internet at his house, I have to go to a neighbor's or the library to check on my email. I wanted you to know. Take care.
Happy Valentine's Day!
Hey Imani! Thanks for the friend request ;DActually, I read The Unconsoled way back when I was in college (like, 10 years ago). I do recall liking it, even if it was bizarre! :D
Make that Showings.
I'll have to look for Seduction and Betrayal. Right now I must be having some form of Middle Ages crisis. I've gone all medieval with The Showing of Julian of Norwich and Ken Follett's The Pillars of the Earth.
Hi friend how are you?
I can always count on you for adding to my list of what to read next! I'm not at all familiar with Dorothy Walsh, but love your estimation of her book. Any chance she's clever enough to be writing in a non-revelatory way to make the case that literature reveals nothing? Ha, ha. That might be too clever for words. Though I did read an essay on modernism and the Harlem Renaissance by Houston Baker, who wrote each step in his argument in the manner and style of his focal point. It was bloody brilliant; first critical piece in a long while to get me excited (a sad, but true, confession)
I just saw your note to our darling sweetafton that you're thinking about reading Amy Levy. Let me know what you think -- it's on my reading list.
Happy new year, my reading friend. I am off to go finish May Sarton's The Small Room, which has given me food for thought about student-plagiarism and dinosaur professors! Then, the last 15 or so pages of Coover's Briar Rose, which thus far has left me in a bit of a funk, preferring instead to read the motif or tale-type indices rather than a mishmash of said. Then, rubbing my hands together with delight, to the pile... to determine what's next!
Happy 2K8 Imani!I am announcing to my shelfari friends the release of my new novel, OWEN FIDDLER.
