Yep got it. You are right you click on the friends name and then you can leave note. Have you invited any others to be your friend. I made one so far other than you and unicorn42. Crystal - she has neat book collection. You can also delete your notes after a while.I sent shelfar an email asking if they are going to allow users to keep track of who they invite as friends and recommend books to. They said it is in the works.
