I thought the Book Thief was great. A tough read given the subject matter, but well written and a different perspective than other WWII books. It is billed as young adult but that would depend on the young adult in my opinion.

A book on quilters appeals to me. I read a light mystery series set in a knit shop which I liked, and I read the Friday Night Knitting Club which I did NOT. It was a light escapist read that ended with a big punch; it should have a warning on it that says that if you have had cancer, don't read this.

I'll let you know what I think of the Persian Pickle Club. Thanks for the info.

you asked for my input on a book, and I saw that you read classics which led me to your shelf. If you are interested in non-fiction to add depth to the classics, you might read The Whaleship Essex - a non-fiction account of a ship and a whale upon which much of Moby Dick may have been based.
also, I read a book of essays/stories by virginia woolf, but no novels. so you recommend to the lighthouse? thanks
