Sounds really interesting. I have parts 1 and 2 but have yet to crack them open.
Your comment about learning German to read the original Faust is very interesting: when he was young, my father attended German language courses. One session was about the various students introducing themselves and talking about the reason(s) they joined the course. Most of them were there for professional advancement reasons. My father tells me there was this mail man who stated that his reason for wanting to learn German is that he wanted to read Faust in the language it was written :)
I think you've just pointed me to the next book(s) I should read :)

    That's great!
I have only read one Cummings poem: "Your Eyes are Somewhere I've Never Traveled", which was really cool.
Plath is a definite favorite of mine (as you can see from my Moot signature :) ) I especially like "Daddy", "Lady Lazarus", "Resolve", "An Apparition" and "Fever 103" by her.

Russian literature, huh? That's great. I have this theory that only Russians and Germans can do decent psychological type novels. I have Dostoevsky and Hesse to back this up. Maybe you can supply further names :)
Speaking of young adult fantasy, did you read "The Book Thief" by Markus Zusack? It's an awesome book. Check it out...

I'm not too sure about "The Boy" either. Maybe I remember the title wrong.
Yeah I know the Dickinson poem you refer to. It's very beautiful; but that's nothing new when it comes to Dickinson :)
So what other poets do you like?
What kind of literature do you prefer to read?

    Wow!
I thought I was the only one who liked Rilke. :)
To tell you the truth it's been a while since I last read him.
My all-time favorite of his is "Music" (the one that starts: "Music, perhaps the stillness of pictures")
There's also one entitled "The Boy" (I don't quite remember how it goes). I also remember one of his Duiniser Elegien/Duino Elegies that started like "Beauty is but the beginning of terror" that was quite moving.
I'm sorry if my Rilke is a bit rusty. He's my favorite but not my all-time favorite. My absolute favorite poet (who I can quote impromptu) is Emily Dickinson. Have you read her?

I'm confused too. I don't think that it's a story that can easily be understood. It's one of the only books I read where I ended with the thought, "I have no idea what I just read."

I'm not exactly sure what to make of it. My edition came with a bunch of translation notes and short essays about the story. I read some of them and I'm still sure sure what I read. I think that the idea of people keeping their own Gregors inside themselves is good. The notes explained it as if Gregor was the something that the author kept in himself. Some disgusting view of the act of writing. But this can apply differently to each reader. Each reader may can something about themselves that they don't want their friends and family to see. What if you were to wake up and you were wearing this thing in a physical way?
