I thought this new web site might be of interest to you. It's a new site that just got started where authors and readers can chit chat and where readers can find out about new books. Stop by and check it out: http://bookeventcenter.ning.com (I try to go to the chat there on Tuesdays around 7:30 p.m. Eastern Time.)

Pink, besides the books I have listed here also check out the books I list here, http://www.librarything.com/catalog/mlstowe. In particular, I love the poetry of Randall Jerrell, which you maybe familiar with and the art work of the German Expressionist period and, for someone contemporary, Lucien Freud. Best regards, Marshall

    Hi Pink,
    Thanks for the reply :)
I can definitely relate to not being able to log on to this website because of your studies. I have a very hectic year this year, too (one more year left till graduation). What's an MA exam? Even though I don't know what it is, I hope you ace it! :)
I haven't read the "Kite Runner", but I've had it recommended to me by several people. So what's it about exactly?
    Best wishes on your exam,
    Joe

    Pink, my friend!
It's been such a long time since we last talked. I haven't been as active in the "Poems" group as I used to be, but I was checking it out today and noticed the absence of any new poems by you. Where's your poetry? Please share :)
Also, on a personal note, how are things going? How far along are you in your studies? Any new interesting books you've read recently?
I wish to hear from you.
    Joseph

Yeah, I noticed the thousand splendid suns in the shop today too. No idea if it's any good, but it's from the same guy who wrote the kite-runner so it's probably worth reading. Didn't buy it though, perhaps I will wish for getting it for christmas from someone.

What do you think of the poems?
Have you had time to write anything yourself?

Hi Pink! I'm fine, it's been good lately, thanks for asking, how's everything with you?
I've written a few poems, haven't posted them all in your group because there was a period there when it seemed like I was the only one there but I can post them if you'd like? it's easier to send you the link to my blog instead of posting them as notes to you, easier for me :) http://kokosmuffins.blogspot.com/
    How's your studies going?

The Kite Runner ? It is a very nice book. Not easy or pleasant. But managing to describe a world that is foreign to me in a way that makes me still understand and relate to the characters. I cannot comment usefully on the language, because I read the book in its german translation, so I don't have a clue how the language of the english one is.

I agree with you, the book is very sad or cruel in parts. I also found the enormous class-differences horrible. Where I live there are also poor and rich people, offcourse, but the differences are not anywhere near as large as in the book. I don't know how this was for you, Iran also has very rich people and very poor people living side-by-side, does it not ?

Some parts where obvious very early, I think I realized on page 13 that the two boys where really half-brothers, for example. But I don't think this was negative. I wish there where more books like this. Books from a different part of the world that at the same time manages to teach me something new about the differences, and yet, at the same time, show me that people are just people and have the same wishes, dreams and sorrows everywhere.
